Some Reasons I Love Fairfax

The community feels genuine.

One of the first things I notice in Fairfax is how people seem to make time for one another.

Friends stop to chat on the sidewalk. Neighbors catch up over coffee. The Wednesday evening farmers market and the annual Fairfax Festival bring people together in a way that feels natural rather than planned.

There's an authenticity here that's hard to put into words, but easy to feel.

It's honestly walkable 

We used to live in San Anselmo-like, downtown San Anselmo-not terribly close to Fairfax and Theo and I would still walk to Fairfax. Most of downtown is flat and honestly fun to walk around. It’s tree lined, lots of flowers and there are usually sweet dogs and their humans to run into.

The Music

Along with good food + good people Fairfax has a real music scene. Some incredible talent and the bars, venues and even most restaurants in town support local music.

Good Earth 

I grab lunch there and fill in whatever fresh fruit or veggies I may need or want. Honestly, for a completely organic market- the prices aren’t bad. And you usually run into someone you know…it is truly a local gathering place + a great market!

 The outdoors are part of everyday life.

You don't have to plan an entire day to enjoy nature here.

Within minutes, you can be walking a trail, riding a bike, or simply taking in the beauty that surrounds Fairfax. It's one of the things that makes living here feel so different from many other Bay Area towns.

And of course, West Marin is just over the hill. So close to Point Reyes - more hikes and-beaches!

Downtown still feels local.

One of my favorite things about Fairfax is that it has held onto its independent spirit.

Instead of national chains, you'll find locally owned cafés, restaurants, bookstores, boutiques, and businesses that give downtown its personality. It feels like a place created for the people who live here.

Bikes are simply part of life.

It's impossible to spend time in Fairfax without noticing bicycles.

Whether it's families riding through town, road cyclists heading toward West Marin, or mountain bikers meeting before a ride, there's an energy here that celebrates being outside.

There's always something happening.

From the Wednesday evening farmers market to live music, community events, and the Fairfax Festival, Fairfax has a way of bringing people together.

One of my favorite places is Deer Park Villa, tucked beneath towering redwoods. Throughout the year it hosts concerts, celebrations, and special events. If you ever have the chance to attend Redwood Nights, an outdoor storytelling evening featuring performers who've appeared on NPR, HBO, PBS, and The Moth, don't miss it. It's one of those uniquely Fairfax experiences that stays with you long after the evening ends.

The food scene keeps getting better.

For a small town, Fairfax has an impressive collection of locally owned restaurants and cafés.

Whether you're meeting friends for lunch, enjoying a relaxed dinner, or grabbing a quick coffee, there's a warmth to the dining scene that reflects the town itself.

-I am still heartbroken that The Hummingbird is gone-it was my absolute favorite.
